Days 1-2: Fly to Shanghai

Fly overnight to the exuberant city of Shanghai, called ‘the Paris of the East’. Depending on your time of arrival the rest of the day is yours to start soaking up the local culture.

Day 3: Discover Shanghai

Admire the antiquities of the Shanghai Museum and stroll around People’s Square before enjoying the 1920s architectural styling of Xintiandi. Enjoy the ambiance of the Yu Gardens and explore the atmospheric old town. This evening sample traditional Shanghai cuisine.

Day 4: Yu Gardens & the Bund

Admire the magnificent colonial architecture along the Bund. Browse the shops on Nanjing Road before viewing the city from the Huangpu River on a panoramic cruise.

Day 5: Historic Suzhou

Suzhou’s centre has managed to retain a quaint charm even as the city has grown up around it. Renowned for its gardens, visit two of the finest, the Humble Administrator’s and the Master of the Nets, both typical of the Chinese appreciation of balance and harmony. Visit a local silk mill.

Day 6: Grand Canal & Wuzhen

Cruise on the thousand-year-old Grand Canal then transfer to the water town of Wuzhen. Full of old-world buildings, cobbled streets and narrow waterways it is an easy place to while away the day. Transfer to Hangzhou.

Days 7-8: Hangzhou

Spend a restful morning wandering around the Temple of Inspired Seclusion and visit the Six Harmonies Pagoda before cruising Hangzhou’s West Lake. The next day, visit the lush green tea farms to learn about the tea making process, from bush to brew. Enjoy a cup of organic green tea whilst deciding which of the locally produced teas you might like to purchase. Fly to the city of Guilin.

Days 9-10: Li River Cruise & Yangshuo

Cruise along the Li River to charming Yangshuo. Around every bend is a view to take your breath away as jagged peaksloom over scenes of lush greenery, grazing buffalo and local fishermen. Yangshuo sits amidst green paddy fields and dramatic limestone karsts – spend the morning exploring. Your afternoon is free but there are many activities available including cycling, rafting and walking. In the evening see the famous cormorant fishermen.

Days 11-12: Stone forest

Visit Reed Flute Cave. Fly to the pleasant city of Kunming and sample delicious Across the Bridge Noodles. The next day, explore the fascinating formations of the Stone Forest.

Day 13: Fly to Chongqing

Spend the morning exploring the scenic Western Hills and Dianchi Lake before taking a flight to Chongqing. Visit Erlin Park and saunter along the winding paths past pavilions, ponds and bridges.

Day 14: Dazu Rock Carvings

Explore old Ciqikou whose narrow streets are perfect for a stroll to admire the historic architecture. Travel to Dazu to marvel at the Beishan Frescos. Influenced by Buddhist, Confucian and Taoist beliefs, some date back to the 7th century.

Day 15: Journey to Chengdu

After a visit to the magnficent Baoding Stone Carvings travel to Chengdu. Sample a delicious, typical Sichuan meal this evening.

Day 16: Grand Buddha of Leshan

Travel to Leshan to visit the 71-metre tall Grand Buddha – a short boat trip on the river will give excellent views. Return to Chengdu with a stop at Huanglongxi where cobbled streets and rickety buildings retain the charms of the Qing Dynasty.

Day 17: Pandas & flight to Xian

Visit Chengdu’s famous Panda Centre to see these celebrated bears in surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat. Fly to Xian where, tonight, we feast on traditional Shui Jiao dumplings before a performance of Tang Dynasty dancing.

Days 18: Terracotta Warriors, Xian

The Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shihuang have intrigued visitors for years – spend the morning viewing their enigmatic ranks, and visit the workshop where you can buy your own little warrior. Later stroll on Xian’s beautifully preserved 14th century city walls.

Day 19: Xian, train to Beijing

Visit the Shaanxi Museum and pay a visit to the lovely little Wild Goose Pagoda. Take a stroll through the atmospheric alleys of the Muslim Quarter, before boarding an overnight train to Beijing.

Days 20-21: Forbidden City and Great WAll

Stroll across Tiananmen Square and into the sprawling magnificence of the Forbidden City, where you’ll find a complex full of imperial treasures. Round off the day with a Chinese acrobatic show. The next morning is dedicated to China’s most iconic sight – the Great Wall. Taking a walk on this incredible structure is the best way to appreciate its sheer magnificence. In the afternoon savour the idyllic landscapes of the Summer Palace.

Days 22: Temple of Heaven

Soak up the harmonious ambience of the Temple of Heaven and explore the Tibetan Buddhist Lama Temple where, amongst clouds of incense, you’ll find prayer wheels, frescoes and decorative arches galore. This evening, savour Beijing’s best known delicacy – Peking Duck.

Day 23: Fly Beijing to UK

Fly to the UK, arriving home the same or following day.

    Day 4: Visit Abu Dhabi
