The northern plains of India have always provided a vast array of sights, sounds and architectural wonders. In one comprehensive tour, see the bustling bazaars of Delhi and Jaipur, the magnificent Taj Mahal at Agra, the deserts of Rajasthan, the bathing Ghats of Varanasi and the erotic temples of Khajuraho.
Days 1-2 : UK – Delhi
Fly overnight to Delhi, India’s capital city.
Day 3 : Delhi
Sightseeing today begins with a visit to the Red Fort and a walk through Chandni Chowk bazaar to Jama Masjid, which is India’s largest mosque. We have a brief photo stop at India Gate and Parliament House. We also visit Gandhi Smriti where Gandhi was assassinated and Qutab Minar.
Day 4 : Delhi – Udaipur
Fly to Udaipur, a city of lakes, palaces and temples. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
Day 5 : Udaipur
We begin with a drive around Fateh Sagar Lake and then visit the Folk Museum, Mewar Art Gallery and Sahelion Ki Bari (Garden for the Maids of Honour). We also visit City Palace and wander through the local shops. In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing cruise on Lake Pichola.
Day 6 : Udaipur – Jodhpur
We travel to Jodhpur, the second largest city in Rajasthan stopping at Ranakpur en-route to visit the largest Jain Temple complex in India, built in the 15th century.
Day 7 : Jodhpur
Visit Meherangarh Fort the museum located in the Umaid Bhawan Palace. We also experience a rickshaw ride and then walk through Subji Mandi, a local vegetable and spice market.
Day 8 : Jodhpur – Jaipur
We travel to Jaipur where we enjoy some shopping at the local bazaar in Choti Choper.
Day 9 : Jaipur
We begin with a photo stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) before continuing to Amer Fort. After trying our hand at some block painting and carpet weaving, we visit City Palace and Jantar Mantar Observatory. Enjoy a traditional dinner and dance performance in the evening.
Day 10 : Jaipur – Ranthambore National Park
Travel to Ranthambore National Park, one of the prime examples of Project Tiger’s conservation efforts in Rajasthan and enjoy a canter safari in the park this afternoon.
Day 11 : Ranthambore National Park
Enjoy a morning and afternoon canter safari in the park.
Day 12 : Ranthambore National Park – Agra
Travel by train to Bharatpur and then continue by road to Agra, stopping at the ‘ghost city’ of Fatehpur Sikri built in 1569 by Emperor Akbar en-route.
Day 13 : Agra
We rise early to view the impressive Taj Mahal in all its glory at sunrise. We also stop at a traditional marble workshop and visit Agra Fort.
Day 14 : Agra – Khajuraho
Travel by Shatabadi Express to Jhansi and then continue by road to Khajuraho, stopping at Orchha en-route. Enjoy a cultural dancing show in the evening.
Day 15 : Khajuraho – Varanasi
Tour the Khajuraho Temples before flying to Varanasi. Enjoy a rickshaw ride to the Ghats of the River Ganges to witness the pooja ceremony of Ganga Aarti in the evening.
Day 16 : Varanasi
We rise early to enjoy a boat ride along the River Ganges to view the Ghats at sunrise which are abuzz with activity followed by a city tour. We also visit the Buddhist sites at Sarnath which date back to the 3rd century and the place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon.
Day 17 : Varanasi – Delhi
Fly to Delhi and stay overnight.
Day 18 : Delhi – UK
Fly to the UK, arriving home later the same day.
