Grand Tour of Indochina

Enjoy the best of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia on our most comprehensive tour of Indochina. This diverse itinerary samples the wide ranging culture, history and geography of this fascinating region. From Sapa’s impressive rice terraces to the beautiful Buddhist temples in Luang Prabang, this tour has it all.
NB: This tour includes some hiking over steep terrain whilst in Sapa.

Days 1-2 : UK – Saigon

Fly overnight to Saigon.

Day 3 : Saigon

Sightseeing today includes a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum. We also visit Cholon (Chinatown), Thien Hau Pagoda and Ben Thanh Market for some shopping.

Day 4 : Mekong Delta – Saigon

Enjoy a cruise on the Mekong River to explore the delta, also known as the ‘Rice Basket’ of Vietnam. Later, return to Saigon.

Day 5 : Tay Ninh & Cu Chi – Saigon

We travel to Tay Ninh and attend the noon service at the Cao Dai Temple, which is one of the most striking structures in Asia. We also explore the amazing network of Cu Chi Tunnels before returning to Saigon.

Days 6-7 : Saigon – Hoi An

Fly to Danang and transfer to the UNESCO listed town of Hoi An, stopping at Marble Mountains en-route. The next day, enjoy a walking tour of Hoi An and visit one of the oldest homes that was built over 200 years ago. Also visit the Japanese Bridge, Hoi An Market and a local Chinese Pagoda.

Days 8-9 : Hoi An – Hue

Travel to Hue, the former historic capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty and visit the UNESCO world heritage listed Royal Tomb of Minh Mang. The next day, enjoy a cyclo ride to the Imperial Citadel, visit Thien Mu Pagoda and take a boat trip on the Perfume River.

Day 10 : Hue – Hanoi – Sapa

Fly to Hanoi, a charming and richly historic city of lakes, parks and shaded boulevards, also known as the ‘Paris of the Orient’. Sightseeing today includes a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Quarter where we visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (closed Sep-Dec), Stilt House, One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature and enjoy a walking tour of the Old Quarter. Later, board the overnight train to Sapa.

Days 11-12 : Sapa – Hanoi

Over the next two days, explore the local area and visit the colourful markets, minority villages, spectacular valleys and fine examples of tribal architecture. Later, board the overnight train to Hanoi.

Day 13 : Hanoi

Arrive in Hanoi and visit the Ethnology Museum. In the evening, see a performance of the famous Water Puppets.

Days 14-15 : Halong Bay Junk Cruise

Travel to the UNESCO world heritage listed site of Halong Bay which is Vietnam’s most iconic attraction, also known as the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of Vietnam. Enjoy seafood meals whilst cruising between the nearby islands and stay overnight on-board the traditionally designed junk boat. Return to Hanoi the following day.

Day 16 : Hanoi – Luang Prabang

Fly to Luang Prabang. Sightseeing by tuk-tuk includes a visit to Wat Visoune, Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Sene and the National Museum. We also climb Phousy Hill for breathtaking views over the city.

Day 17 : Luang Prabang

We rise early to watch a ‘Takbat’ ceremony. We also enjoy a cruise along the Mekong River to see the Pak Ou Caves. Return to Luang Prabang and visit Ban Xang Khong Village en-route.

Day 18 : Luang Prabang

Visit the National Museum before continuing to Kuang Si Waterfalls and visit an H’mong village en-route. Return to Luang Prabang stopping at Ock Pop Tok Weaving Centre along the way.

Day 19 : Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng

Travel to Vang Vieng and visit Phoukhoune, Ban Houn Xay and Kasi en-route.

Day 20 : Vang Vieng – Vientiane

We explore the Tham Chang Caves before continuing to Vientiane.

Day 21 : Vientiane

Visit Thongkhankham Market, Wat Si Saket, Wat Phra Keo, Pha That Luang Stupa, Patuxai Victory Monument and Buddha Park. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Lao dinner followed by a dance show.

Day 22 : Vientiane – Phnom Penh

Fly to Phnom Penh and visit the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda which houses the striking Emerald Buddha and the National Museum.

Day 23 : Phnom Penh

Visit Wat Phnom and the Aspara Association, where disadvantaged children are taught traditional music and dance. We also visit the Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocidal Crimes.

Day 24 : Phnom Penh – Siem Reap

Fly to Siem Reap and visit the temples of Srah Srang and East Mebon. We also climb to the summit of Pre Rup Temple at sunset for a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape.

Day 25 : Siem Reap

Drive to the fortified city of Angkor Thom. We start at the Southern Gate and continue to The Bayon, which is beautifully carved with numerous striking faces. We also visit the Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the magnificent Angkor Wat.

Day 26 : Siem Reap

High Water Season (Aug to Feb). Cruise on Tonle Sap and then continue to Siem Reap to visit the temples of Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Ta Som and Ta Phrom.

Day 26 : Siem Reap

Low Water Season (Mar to Jul). Travel to Siem Reap and visit the temples of Banteay Srei, Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Ta Som and Ta Phrom.

Days 27-28 : Siem Reap – UK

Fly overnight to the UK via Hanoi, arriving home the following day.

    Transfer from Bangkok to the Springfield Resort in Cha'am (approx 3 hours). This delightful resort is set on a quiet stretch of Cha’am’s unspoiled beach, about 12 miles from Hua Hin. Hotel facilities include an International restaurant, Thai restaurant, swimming pool, jacuzzi, tennis, fitness room with sauna, steam room and massage and a games room.     Travel by ferry across the Victoria Harbour to Silvermine Bay and visit beautiful Cheung Sha beach. This is followed by Tai O Fishing Village, where many homes are built on stilts. Then travel to Ngong Ping Plateau to see the Giant Buddha and explore Po Lin Monastery where you will enjoy a vegetarian lunch. Later, visit the culturally themed Ngong Ping Village before ending the day with a spectacular ride aboard the Skyrail cable car.
