Whilst most places throughout Asia will serve up the usual toast, cereals and eggs for visitors, giving the local breakfast foods a try, be it from the breakfast buffet or freshly cooked from a street stall, will earn you some serious travel kudos!<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what they eat for breakfast in four of Asia\u2019s hottest spots:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4753 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wendywutours.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/congeechina.jpg\" alt=\"Congee rice porridge\" width=\"625\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wendywutours.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/congeechina.jpg 625w, https:\/\/www.wendywutours.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/congeechina-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>China<\/h3>\n<p>China is big, so foods in general vary from region to region, however the way that people start the day across the country\u00a0is pretty much the same throughout. It\u2019s an early start, and for many, many people there\u2019s no time to waste, so they get out into China\u2019s green spaces and do some form of exercise. Brekkie is usually eaten on the go, grabbed from one of the many snack stalls on city streets. Popular options includes:<br \/>\n<strong>Soybean milk and deep fried dough sticks<\/strong> \u2013 a warm milky drink with dunky dough, what\u2019s not to love?<br \/>\n<strong>Steamed buns<\/strong> \u2013 popular at any time of day, early in the morning there are sweet and salty steamed bun options, filled with meats, soups or pastes.<br \/>\n<strong>Wheat noodles<\/strong> \u2013 particularly big in north China, this is a hot and flavourful way to start the day, usually served with meat and a veg or two.<br \/>\n<strong>Rice porridge\/congee<\/strong> \u2013 this one is more of an acquired taste, a rice or grain based savoury porridge usually served with things like pickled vegetables and fermented tofu. From its time as a colony of France, there is also a lot of French influence in Vietnamese cuisine, so if you\u2019re desperate to start the day with a croissant, that won\u2019t be too much of a problem. Of course, whatever your breakfast is, it gets washed down with gallons of Vietnamese coffee:<br \/>\n<strong>Pho<\/strong> \u2013 a popular dish all over the world, and available to eat at any time of day, this perfectly spiced soup with noodles, served with veggies, beef or chicken is a nourishing fast-breaker.<br \/>\n<strong>Xoi<\/strong> \u2013 balls of sticky rice sold from many a street stall, Xoi comes with things like peanuts, corn or green beans. Good to eat on the go.<br \/>\n<strong>Banh mi<\/strong> \u2013 an example of that Vietnamese\/French fusion, this baguette sandwich is a popular, filling choice, and a bit easier to wrap our Western taste buds around. However, some still enjoy indulging in more traditional Japanese breakfast items, which are very savoury and some of which, we think it\u2019s fair to say, are a strong, acquired taste that we would struggle with! That\u2019s not to say you shouldn\u2019t give it a try though:<br \/>\n<strong>Everyday breakfast<\/strong> \u2013 for many, an everyday breakfast might consist of toast, butter, ham, egg and salad. Yes, salad is quite a normal breakfast item in Japan and a great way to get your greens in early!<br \/>\n<strong>Traditional breakfast<\/strong> \u2013 tamago-nato is a dish made up on rice, raw egg and soy sauce, all mixed together and slurped up. Natto, fermented soy beans, are also a traditional choice, alongside miso soup, nori and Japanese pickles. Depending on whereabouts in the country you are, the base of the breakfast will change \u2013 whether there is or isn&#8217;t rice, the type of wheat-based element (rotis, dosas, parathas etc) and the levels of spice, fruit or vegetable ingredients and so on. Really, you could travel all around India and eat something different for breakfast everyday \u2013 now that\u2019s a good challenge!<br \/>\n<strong>Chole Bhature<\/strong> \u2013 spicy white chickpeas and fried bread make a fiery and filling start to the day!<br \/>\n<strong>Masala dosa<\/strong> \u2013 this stuffed pancake delight uses rice, lentils, potatoes and curry leaves and is served with chutneys and sambar, though this will vary from place to place.<br \/>\n<strong>Idli<\/strong> \u2013 a traditional breakfast choice, this savoury cake made from fermented black lentils and rice. It\u2019s served hot and because of its quite plain taste, it comes with sambar and chutneys for dipping.<br \/>\n<strong>Eggs and bread<\/strong> \u2013 whipped up at home or purchased from a street vendor, this classic choice is enjoyed across India, usually served up with a local twist for extra flavour.
