We\u2019ve taken a look at a few of our iconic\ndestinations to see how they nod towards the largest celebration in Western culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kentucky Fried Christmas \u2013 Japan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst we all love a bargain bucket, no one loves it more\nthan the Japanese \u2013 on Christmas Day!&nbsp;\nIt\u2019s traditional for the family to have a feast of fried chicken on\nChristmas Day, so much that the well-known chain even have a special festive\nmenu, which involves new flavours and a \u2018Festive Roast Bird\u2019 selection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A fun fact for you is that most Japanese people use fast\nfood apps to get their Christmas lunch order in, and the most used app on\nChristmas Day 2018 was Uber\nEats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Japan has many quirky traditions that take place throughout the year, and the best way to experience them for yourself is to visit. It honours the Virgin Mary\nand the immaculate conception of baby Jesus and to commemorate, little candles\n(in paper lanterns) are placed in windows, on balconies and in porches across\ntowns and villages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s said to look beautiful as you approach a town or\nvillage at night during the Christmas season as little candles in paper\nlanterns illuminate the streets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colombia is known for its coffee, but there\u2019s actually so much more to see and do there, with many festivals, carnivals and celebrations taking place throughout the year. Like\nWestern tradition,\nfamilies are encouraged to sit down to a feast together on Christmas Day, however\ntheir meal consists of a very different selection of food to what&nbsp; we are used to. The main dishes enjoyed on Christmas Day in\nChina is roast barbecued pork,\nchicken, dumplings (jiaozi) and soup served with wood ear or cloud\nfungus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christmas markets also pop up in large towns a few weeks before Christmas, and Christmas trees are erected and covered in hundreds of lights. As 70% of the population are Muslim, Christmas isn\u2019t a\nbig holiday for them so many celebrations around this time are usually to\nadhere to Western customs. As a nod to Western traditions and culture, locals\ndo celebrate Christmas, but the Sunday before Christmas Day, usually with a\nfamily feast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on January 7<sup>th<\/sup>\nand this is to commemorate the birth of Lord Jesus. New Year trees are\nput up in town squares, villages and in people\u2019s homes and statues (resembling\nSanta) are put up to worship the \u2018Snow Father\u2019 and his \u2018Snow Maiden\u2019. School\nchildren sing carols or recite poems to the statues in exchange for New Year\npresents, given around a New Year tree. Christmas celebrations and gatherings can be found in many parts of the\ncountry, and many people choose to celebrate it as a Western custom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Christians in India put small clay oil burners on their\nroofs to symbolise Christ being the \u2018Light of the World\u2019, and they also go out\nevery night of the week leading up to Christmas to sing carols around the towns\nor villages and midnight mass is attended on Christmas eve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christmas trees in India aren\u2019t the traditional type that we are used to, however Banana or Mango trees are decorated, and Mango leaves are used to decorate homes. In India, Father Christmas delivers presents to children in a horse and cart and he is known as \u2018Christmas Baba\u2019 (in Hindi) or \u2018Baba Christmas\u2019 in Urdu.
