Expert Dr Robin Catchpole

Robin is currently at the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge University, and previously served as Senior Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. His research interests include exploding stars and galaxies with black holes at their centres. He has given numerous lectures, radio and TV interviews and is currently part of the team building the Solar Pyramid, which will be the largest sundial in the world.

Tipping - Tipping while on holiday is common in most parts of the world and South America is no exception. We will provide suggested tipping amounts with your final documents for your convenience, however tipping is entirely at your own discretion.

Transport - Coaches: Coaches with air conditioning are used on our group tours for city short excursions to the countryside and longer transfers between destinations. Roads in Chile have generally been improved over recent years, but please be aware traffic and/or weather conditions may extend driving times. There may be sections of road where the surface may be comparatively bumpy but our drivers will do their utmost to lessen the impact.

Planes: Internal flights are based on economy class, with reputable airlines.

Food - The cost of most meals is included in your group tour cost, and what is included each day is stated in your tour dossier. We aim to cater to the tastes of the majority of people and so the food is not too spicy or unusual in taste. Any food/diet requests MUST be specified at the time of booking and you should mention it again to the Local Guides when you meet them – they will do their utmost to cater for any special requests, such as vegetarian meals or food to be avoided in case of allergies.
