Naples is the ‘grande dame’ of southern of Italy, the region’s largest city and a hub of culture that exudes a crumbling charm. It has an extensive history, dating all the way back to the Greeks and Romans, that is weaved with myth and legend – with its beautiful setting by the sea, under the watchful gaze of Mt Vesuvius, it’s easy to see why.

Edgy and atmospheric in a way that no other Italian city can boast, it is packed with culture treasures, including grand palaces, old castles, ancient ruins and a set of some of the earliest Christian mosaics in the world.

It is also a gastronomic paradise – quite a feat in a country that is a foodie heaven – famous for its pasta, pizza and espresso, all extensively available in the wealth of restaurants and eateries that line its stately streets.

Explore the bustling Centro Storico, which still follows the original Roman roads, and pop out of the city to wander the remains of the fascinating Pompeii, a thriving city buried under the ashes spewed by Mt Vesuvius in 79BCE.
