Introduction to India

India travel information

Taj Mahal

When people think of India they conjure up images of the colourful religions and festivals, the blend of economic growth intermixed with poverty; and deserts dotted with historic forts and royal palaces. There is also the wildlife such as the Asian Elephant and Bengal Tiger found in the numerous National Parks and wildlife sanctuaries. That most famous memorial to Love, of course, the Taj Mahal. All of these images and facets of India are experienced on our tours.

But the most enduring image that you will take away with you from a visit to India is of the people. Within its population of more than one billion, there are over 400 different tribal communities speaking more than 750 different dialects. From the Tamils of the south to the Tibetan people of Ladakh, this mix of people has come about over thousands of years of invasion, migration and trade. The majority of Indian people are Hindus but there are also many other religious communities such as Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism and Judaism.
