Explore Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in one complete tour. This tour samples the wide ranging culture, history and geography of this fascinating region. From the magnificent Angkor complex in Cambodia, the beautiful Buddhist temples in Laos and the ‘Jewel in the crown of Vietnam’ - Halong Bay, this tour has it all.
Days 1-2 : UK – Phnom Penh
Fly overnight to Phnom Penh.
Day 3 : Phnom Penh
Sightseeing today includes visits to the Silver Pagoda, the striking Emerald Buddha and the National Museum. Also visit the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocidal Crimes; both of which are very moving experiences, followed by a sunset cruise on the Mekong River. (B,L)
Day 4 : Siem Reap
Travel to the fortified city of Angkor Thom. Start at the Southern Gate and continue to The Bayon, which is beautifully carved with numerous striking faces followed by a visit to the Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the magnificent Angkor Wat. (B,L)
Day 5 : Siem Reap
Travel by speedboat down the Slung Sangker River to Tonle Sap and visit floating fishing markets en-route. Then travel by road to Siem Reap. After lunch, visit Banteay Srei, a Hindu temple which is dedicated to Shiva. (B,L)
Day 6 : Siem Reap – Luang Prabang
Visit Srah Srang, Banteay Kdei, Kravan, Ta Keo and the fabulous Ta Prohm Temple, undoubtedly the most atmospheric ruin at Angkor, which has been swallowed by the jungle. The temple is cloaked in dappled light, its crumbling towers and walls locked in the embrace of a vast root system of enormous fig trees and giant creepers. Later, fly to Luang Prabang. (B)
Day 7 : Luang Prabang
Sightseeing today includes a visit to Wat Xieng Thong, Kuang Si Waterfalls and the colourful Hmong and Khmou hill tribe villages. (B)
Day 8 : Luang Prabang
Rise early to watch 'Tabak'; a Buddhist ceremony where monks receive food in small baskets, which is also known as 'alms ritual'. Also enjoy a cruise along the Mekong River to visit the Pak Ou Caves as well as visit the local village of and Ban Xang Khong. In the evening, enjoy a traditional dinner and Lao dance show. (B,L,D)
Day 9 : Luang Prabang – Vientiane
Visit the Royal Palace Museum and Wat Mai before flying to Vientiane. Later, visit Wat Si Saket, Wat Phra Keo, Pha That Luang Stupa and Patuxai Victory Monument. In the evening, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Mekong River. (B)
Day 10 : Vientiane – Hanoi
Fly to Hanoi. (B)
Day 11 : Hanoi
Sightseeing today includes visits to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed Sep-Dec), Stilt House, One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature. Also enjoy a walking tour of the Old Quarter and a drive around Hoan Kiem Lake. In the evening, enjoy a performance of the famous Water Puppets. (B,L,D)
Day 12 : Halong Bay Junk Cruise
Drive to Halong Bay, the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of Vietnam and commence cruising onboard the traditionally designed junk boat. Relax and enjoy a seafood meal onboard whilst cruising between the nearby islands. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Halong Bay is one of Vietnam’s most iconic attractions and features more than 3,000 limestone karsts rising from the Gulf of Tonkin dotted with caves, grottoes, reefs, forests and lakes. Later, return to Hanoi in the afternoon, driving through the striking rural countryside of the Red River Delta. (B,L)
Day 13 : Hanoi – Hoi An
Fly to Danang and transfer to the UNESCO listed town of Hoi An stopping at Cham Museum, Marble Mountains and China Beach en-route. Later, take part in a cooking class focusing on select local dishes designed for the Royal Courts. (B,L)
Day 14 : Hoi An
Enjoy a walking tour of Hoi An and visit one of the oldest homes, which is still occupied by the descendants of the merchants that built it over 200 years ago. Also visit the Japanese Bridge, Hoi An Market and a local Chinese Pagoda. The afternoon is at leisure to visit the renowned tailors, stroll through the local markets or relax in a riverside café. Day 15 : Hoi An – Saigon
Fly to Saigon. Sightseeing today includes a visit to the former Presidential Palace, the War Remnants Museum, the imposing Notre Dame Cathedral and the French-style Post Office. Also visit Cholon (Chinatown), Thien Hau Pagoda and Ben Thanh Market for some shopping. (B,L,D)
Day 16 : Cu Chi Tunnels & Tay Ninh day tour
Visit the famous tunnel system at Cu Chi and then attend the noon service at the Cao Dai Temple, which is one of the most striking structures in Asia. (B,L)
Day 17 : Mekong Delta day tour – Saigon
Travel to My Tho and enjoy a cruise on the Mekong River to explore the delta, also known as the ‘Rice Basket’ of Vietnam. Visit floating markets, villages, home industries and plantations as well as Thoi Son Island and Vinh Trang Pagoda. The Mekong Delta is primarily rural; however, it is the most densely populated area in Vietnam. Life revolves around the river as people live, trade and travel along the river. The area’s rich and fertile lands are perfect for growing rice, coconuts, vegetables and tropical fruits. The Mekong Delta gives a perfect glimpse into how life once was. Later, return to Saigon and fly overnight to the UK. (B,L)
Day 18 : UK
Arrive back home in the UK, filled with many happy memories.
