Laos is one of the most underdeveloped countries in South East Asia and offers a real contrast to its neighbours. Discover the capital Vientiane and look across the Mekong to Thailand. Catch a boat down the Mekong to the South, an area of Laos rarely visited, ride elephants and stay on the islands of the Mekong. Finally experience the UNESCO World Heritage site of Luang Prabang and treat yourself to some of the best cuisine in Laos while watching the sunset over the Mekong River, the perfect end to any trip.

Day 1 : Arrive Vientiane

Transfer to your hotel in Vientiane. Sightseeing this afternoon includes visits to the Patouxay Victory Monument, Wat Sisaket, Wat Phra Keo and That Luang, the most revered shrine in Laos.

Day 2 : Vientiane – Khong Island

Fly to Pakse. Upon arrival, transfer to the pier and board your cruise to Champasak. Continue by road to visit the Khmer ruins of Wat Phou. Enjoy an elephant ride to Phou Asa Hill and its ruins from Ban Khiet Ngong village before continuing to Khong Island. (B,L)

Day 3 : Khong Island – Pakse

Travel by boat through the Si Phane Done area. Visit the old French railway and locomotive and walk through the villages and countryside to the Liphi Waterfall. Cross the Mekong and drive to Kone Phapeng before continuing on to Pakse. (B,L)

Day 4 : Pakse – Luang Prabang

Fly to Luang Prabang via Vientiane. Visit the old city of Luang Prabang including Wat Mai with its five tiered roof and Wat Xieng Thong. Climb Phousy Hill for a breathtaking views over the city. (B)

Day 5 : Luang Prabang

Head to the morning market and take part in the Dawn Alms ritual with the local monks. After breakfast at a local bakery, visit the Royal Palace Museum and take a boat trip along the Mekong River to the Pak Ou caves. Enjoy a Ramayana performance tonight (B,L,D).

Day 6 : Luang Prabang

Visit the fresh local markets before continuing to Kuangsi Waterfall visiting the Hmong village Ban Na Ouane en-route. Enjoy a short walk to the waterfall where you will have time for a swim. (B)

Day 7 : Depart Luang Prabang

Transfer to Luang Prabang Airport for your onward flight. (B)
