Laos Explorer

Laos is one of the most underdeveloped countries in South East Asia and offers a real contrast to its neighbours. Discover the capital Vientiane and look across the Mekong to Thailand. Catch a boat down the Mekong to the South, an area of Laos rarely visited, ride elephants and stay on the islands of the Mekong. Finally experience the UNESCO World Heritage site of Luang Prabang and treat yourself to some of the best cuisine in Laos while watching the sunset over the Mekong River, the perfect end to any trip.

Day 1 : Arrive Vientiane

Transfer to your hotel. Later, visit Was Si Saket which is the oldest temple in Vientiane, Wat Prah Keo, Pha That Luang Stupa which is the most revered shrine in Laos and Talat Sao Market. Also visit Patauxai Victory Monument which resembles the Arc De Triomphe in Paris and the Lao Revolutionary Museum before enjoying the sunset over the banks of the Mekong River.

Day 2 : Vientiane – PaKse - Khong Island

Fly to Pakse. Transfer to the pier and enjoy a cruise (approx 2 hours) on a traditional boat to Chamapssak. Continue by road to visit the spectacular Khmer ruins of Wat Phu and a local museum. After lunch, enjoy an elephant ride to Phou Asa Hill before continuing by road to Khong Island. (B,L)

Day 3 : Khong Island – Pakse

Enjoy a boat ride through the Si Phane Done area, also referred to as ‘the Four Thousand Islands’, along the Mekong River and then visit an old French railway station. After lunch, enjoy a walk through the local villages and the countryside to the Liphi waterfalls close to the Cambodian border. Drive to the Khone Phapheng before returning to Pakse. (B,L)

Day 4 : Pakse – Luang Prabang

Fly to Luang Prabang via Vientiane. Witness a traditional ‘Baci’ ceremony as well as climb Phousy Hill for breathtaking view over the city. (B)

Day 5 : Luang Prabang

We rise early to watch 'Tabak'; a Buddhist ceremony where monks receive food in small baskets, which is also known as 'alms ritual'. We then enjoy a cruise along the Mekong River to visit the Pak Ou Caves followed by lunch onboard. In the evening, we enjoy a traditional dinner and Lao dance show. (B,L,D)

Day 6 : Luang Prabang

Visit a local market and the village of H’mong Ban Na Ouane en-route. Continue to the Kuang Si Waterfalls and enjoy a walk through the forest or a swim in the many clear pools. Return to Luang Prabang visiting the Khmu village in Ban Thapene en-route. (B)

Day 7 : Depart Luang Prabang

Transfer to Luang Prabang Airport. (B)
