"We are never satisfied until you come back and travel with us again" - Wendy Wu, Founder & Chairwoman

At Wendy Wu Tours, we want to know what you think about the service you receive when you book with us and what you thought about your tour itself. It's this vital information that helps us to improve in the future.

With this in mind, we have teamed up with independent review company feefo. Once you have made a booking or returned from one of our tours, you'll receive an email from feefo asking you to rate your experience with us.

We then display these reviews right here, completely untouched by us, so you can trust them 100%.

We were humbled to receive so much positive feedback from clients affected by the onset of the Coronavirus crisis. We hope the positive experience of customers, who still managed to enjoy their tours even as the pandemic hit, shows how wonderful your experience will be once we all get travelling again.

We also have more fantastic reviews from around the globe on TripAdvisor, including many 5 star!

Majestic Yangtze

Overview Rating:
This was our first tour and we were extremely impressed by the organisation and the standards. The size of our group (19) was not overwhelming and allowed us to get to know our fellow travellers well. Our guide Jason was absolutely outstanding at his job. He was caring and knowledgeable with a good sense of humour, which added to the experience.

Journey through Jordan

Our Tour: Good
Jordan is a very interesting country to visit. This trip was very good up until Wadi Rum Desert Camp, which was very disappointing. It was advertised as a unique desert camp with ensuite private tents. It wasn't unique (there were several camps); it was hardly a camp with tents - they were cabins/chalets! We had been looking forward to camping in the desert under the stars, but we ended up in a wooden hut with lots of other tourists. The Bedouin hospitality was in fact the locals making us a cup of tea in the desert.
From the beginning of our trip every day had got better and better until we reached Wadi Rum. This experience was a stark contrast to the previous days which had been wonderful - full of historic sites and culture.
The Dead Sea Hotel we stayed in seemed like a hotel of two halves. The Reception area and rooms were very nice, however, the dining area was like a motorway service station with buffet food.
Overall our guide was very good and very knowledgeable.
Wendy Wu looked after us very well; food was particularly good; perhaps one little complaint was cutting short interesting visits to reach restaurants on time.

Travelling with Wendy Wu was a fantastic way to see China. Ryan was a great tour guide for the whole trip and the individual city guides were very knowledgeable.

Would thoroughly recommend

Firstly, let me start with the positives. Dealing with the office in the UK was spot on, with everything running smoothly on that front. In addition, all the hotels were good, with bigger rooms than expected. The beds were comfortable, the showers powerful, and the hotel staff very courteous. The trip content was as stated, and the transport was efficient in order to get from A to B. The drivers were very professional, and always greeted you with a smile. The days could be long, but this is what you expect on a trip like this, and on occasion, there was insufficient time to see everything you wanted to see on the day. Unfortunately, these days, most tourist venues are crowded, with long queues at times, resulting in less time to enjoy the attraction. This is a compromise that has to be accepted if you want to travel.
Now onto the issue that really spoilt my holiday, and that was the food. As previous reviews have stated, if you don’t eat seafood or fish, then this trip is not for you. I saw this a little too late, as I eat neither, prefer my meat to be on the lean side, and as my wife tells me, I can be a fussy eater. To be fair, every venue was informed that myself and one other didn’t eat seafood, and this was taken into account each meal. On the first evening at the welcome dinner, we were served with a seafood bbq cooked on open coals, and a separate fire was used in order to cook meat for myself and my fellow meat eater. So far, so good. What followed was set meal after set meal after set meal, both for lunch and dinner. During the whole trip we had 2 buffet lunches, and no choice with any set menu, other than take it or leave it. Each meal seemed to be a variant of the one before, and in my opinion, the food was low budget aimed at tourist groups. I fully understand that it is impossible to give 28 people a big choice of menu when time is limited, but surely it is possible to offer at least a couple of options at meal times. This is an expensive trip, and I expected some choice and better quality food. For example, the Genghis Khan lamb bbq was a joke. By definition, a bbq is held outdoors and the food cooked on an open fire. Not this bbq, as it was held in a private room and the food was cooked on a hot plate by you. No problem cooking my own food, but when the lamb is stringy and sinewy, of poor quality and very tough to eat, then I lose my sense of humour. What should have been a culinary highlight was hugely disappointing. What is especially galling about the food on the trip is that the street food in Japan is great. It is tasty, reasonably priced, and readily available. Same with the restaurants. Good food can be sourced easily, and it compares very well with prices in the UK. I know this because I gave up on some group meals pretty early in the trip and bought independently when possible. Great steaks, lovely burgers, and even the snacks at the convenience stores are tasty. Having paid for an expensive trip, it would have been foolish not to spend a little extra on food in order to bypass the substandard meals on offer. I get that I am in Japan, where they do things differently and it is only correct that one should be immersed in all aspects of their culture etc. However, when it comes to eating, the composition and nationalities of the group should also be considered. It should also be noted that the lunches are whistle stop affairs which usually take place in large restaurants/food halls that cater to many coach trips at the same time. Dinners are better from a venue point of view, are more intimate, and have more time allotted to them. Having said all that, and to conclude, the food aspect of this trip was very disappointing indeed.
It is also stated by Wendy Wu that an English speaking guide will be provided for the trip. Whilst this “was” the case, the guides command of the language was poor, and her understanding of it when you spoke to her even worse. This was not a major issue for me personally, but it was for others. There was very little off the cuff information given about the country etc, and anything we were told about a temple or shrine was simply read to us via the internet. Consequently, it just became easier to do this yourself the night before in your hotel. It also became apparent very early in the trip that the guide was not used to dealing with a large group, and she became aggressive at times, and was easily frustrated. A good guide is a huge asset on a trip of this nature, and can make it or break it. Whilst our guide was able to get us from A to B every day with out losing anyone, it did appear as if she was out of her depth on a long trip with a big group of people. It should be borne in mind, however, that it would be difficult for her to deal with Aussie, Kiwi, American and pommie accents on a continuous daily basis. A better understanding of the English language is a must have for any guide on this trip.
Would I use Wendy Wu again? I don’t think so. They came highly recommended by my sister who had been to China with them, but the food was the deal breaker for me. In future, I will pay more attention to previous reviews, as alarm bells should have been ringing for me before I booked this trip, as this was a major issue also brought up by others.

Food and hotels were excellent. Lemon and mint drink is most refreshing and a date smoothie is delicious. Scenery and experiences outstanding. People most hospitable - English widely and spoken and to a very high standard. Go before tourism changes the experience.

Grand Tour of China

I should start with mentioning Frank, our tour guide, who was excellent in not only acting as a shepherd with his "flock" but was extremely knowledgable about places visited and ever so helpful when problems arose such as sickness, emergencies, hospital visits, medication etc. Always patient, good natured and a great sense of humour. This was a once in a lifetime trip and the destinations visited fulfilled all our desires - Xian, Beijing, Dali, Kunming, Yangtze river, Chongqing, ChengDu, Guillin, Yangshuo, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai, and Hong Kong! It truly was stunning and unforgettable, and exhausting! This tour requires a good degree of fitness as there will be substantial walking involved. It also involves a high degree of transport and frequent packing / unpacking between accommodations. If there was one criticsm I would have to make, it would be able to spend more "me time" in some of the destinations even if this reduces the itinerary.

The first hotel 3 nights was great. 2nd hotel 2 nights was good. Last hotel at Dead Sea was not 5 stars and was really disappointing. All meals until the last day were great. Last day lunch and dinner was in the mediocre hotel buffet style hot dishes were not hot, desserts were not covered despite the flies and the queues for food were ridiculous. It was as if Wendy Wu had run out of ideas. The adult pool was closed, the Lebanese restaurant was closed. Generally the last day was a lacklustre affair which was a real shame

The holiday of a lifetime and the best holiday I have ever had. Peru - the Andes, Machu Picchu, Lamas and Alpacas, Chocolate and Pisco Sour, Lake Titicaca and Floating Islands. Buenos Aires - Tango lessons, Gauchos and horse riding. Rio de Janiero - Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Copacabana Beach, Carnival experience and Samba. The Iguaza Falls were amazing with the option to view them by helicopter and boat - brilliant experiences. Learning about the different cultures and history was fascinating and visiting Indigenous families and sampling their ancient rituals was a privilege. Al the places visited were fantastic and I cannot pick out a favourite - they were all brilliant.

The Hotels and food were all excellent. We sampled lots of different restaurants and cuisine. Dinner was usually in a local restaurant and included great entertainment.

Everything was extremely well organised and it all ran very smoothly, we did not have to worry about a thing. Claudio - our guide for the whole tour - was knowledgeable and passionate. He looked after us extremely well, he was pleasant, friendly, caring, thoughtful and extremely efficient. He worked very hard and attended to every detail. In addition to Claudio there were local guides who specialised in a particular area and they were all brilliant too. Transport was always ready and waiting for us, and all the drivers were pleasant, friendly and helpful.

It was full on and fast paced, lots packed in and so as expected very little downtime. I found it all very exciting and in my view if you are going to travel that far you might as well do as much as possible.

We have lots and lots of photos, many happy memories and have made some lovely new friends.

Fantastic experience, brilliant holiday and worth every penny - thank you Wendy Wu.

The river cruise was absolutely fantastic - truly exceptional service and wonderfully comfortable.
Visiting Sikkim and Darjeeling was very interesting but spoilt for us as the weather was extremely wet.
The guides and excursions were extremely good.
I have only given a 4-star rating overall as the quality of hotels was in general below expectation: the location of the hotel in Kolkata was good but the rooms were a bit dirty and the meals were poor and the Summit North Star Hotel in Gangtok was awful in every way (I note this can be booked online for £22 for a 'deluxe' room!!).
This is our second Wendy Wu holiday (having previously visited Japan) and I would prefer less elaborate/substantial lunches and a slight upgrade in the standard of hotel accommodation to a genuine 4* for all tours.
I would also not recommend Air India.

I nearly didn’t go on this holiday because my travel companion was too ill to travel but I decided to brave it and I’m glad I did. It was a packed itinerary with lots of different experiences so not much time to feel lonely. Our guide Junya was very friendly and informative although I did have to concentrate to understand him sometimes. Generally the hotels were good but they did vary in standards as did the food offered. I felt that there was rather too much Japanese food which became a bit repetitive after a time. The travel arrangements were excellent and very efficient. Overall it was a great holiday and Japan is a wonderful country to visit and experience a very different culture

Gems of China

A very well-planned, organised and well led tour which made the most of the time available. Full of variety and interest; accommodation and food excellent.

But the charms of China as a destination are seriously limited - overdevelopment, man-made accretions defacing its iconic natural landscapes and wonders, and gross overcrowding in all the tourist attractions. Disappointingly, none of the preserved old towns on the Yangtze were included in the itinerary.
