Member Spotlight – Fiona McRitchie

Fiona McRitchie has been a regular solo traveller with us since 2017 when she went to China and has been to a further 15 countries with us to date! We asked her a couple of questions about her experiences so far, and this is what she had to say:

What is your favourite memory from your WWT adventures so far?
My favourite country that I have visited has to be Japan, as it was so culturally different from anywhere I had been before. However, for a really ‘wow’ moment, I would have to choose Borneo. We were on a river trip in Kinabatangan and had been out for hours, spotting many other species but no orangutans. It was starting to get dark, so we headed back to the lodge when suddenly we saw him! A large male, high in the trees making his nest for the night – what a moment to share with my fellow travellers. Seeing an orangutan in the wild is something that will stay with me forever.

What has your experience as a solo traveller been like?
I have travelled solo for most of my Wendy Wu trips and took the initial plunge back in 2017 and I haven’t looked back. I have made many traveller friends along the way and am still in touch with some, who I now travel with – a group of us are going to Armenia and Georgia in 2027. I have found on tour that everyone is always very welcoming and friendly and that eating together breaks the ice and helps us to get to know each other while sharing unforgettable experiences together bonds the group. I have always felt safe and never lonely as there is so much to see and do each day.

Where next?
I am travelling to Morocco this year and have also just booked a trip to Mongolia in 2028. Life is too short to say no so as long as I can, I will continue to travel.
