My Travel Packing Must-Haves
I’ve been working in travel for almost 15 years and have almost set foot on every continent – Antarctica is still on the list! So, it’s safe to say I’ve had my fair share of adventures. Over the years, I’ve discovered there are a few things that make it onto my packing list without fail. They may seem like small additions, but they can make a big difference to keeping your trip running smoothly.
Packing Cubes
An absolute gamechanger! Not only do packing cubes help keep your suitcase tidy and compact, but they also allow you to organise your belongings in a way that works best for your trip. You could separate clothing by type, with T-shirts in one and trousers in another, or even pack by day, with your Day 1 outfit in one cube and Day 2 in another.
They’re particularly useful when you’re moving between multiple hotels, as you can simply take out the cube you need rather than rummaging through your entire suitcase!
Extension Lead
Perfect if you have multiple devices to charge – phone, camera, portable charger, toothbrush…the list goes on! An extension lead means you only need one travel adaptor and can charge several things at once. It’s also incredibly useful when your hotel room has limited sockets or they’re in awkward places.
Portable Phone Charger
When you’re out exploring all day, the last thing you want is to see that dreaded low-battery warning just as you’re about to take the perfect photo! I always carry a portable charger with me, particularly on touring holidays, so I can keep my phone charged when I’m away from a socket.
Handheld Rechargeable Fan
A must-have when travelling to warmer destinations! These little fans really do work and are perfect for keeping cool while sightseeing. There are plenty of compact rechargeable options that are small enough to fit comfortably into a handbag or small backpack, so they won’t take up precious packing space.
Reusable Water Bottle
Staying hydrated is so important when you’re exploring somewhere new, especially in hot or humid climates. I always pack a reusable water bottle so I can keep a drink with me throughout the day. A collapsible version is particularly handy as it takes up hardly any room once it’s empty.
