How the China visa process works

The below information has been put together as guidance on how the visa process works. Please note the process may change at anytime and with little notice. Please be prepared that you may be required to visit your nearest visa centre in person.

All passengers will be required to complete an online visa application form for the visa centre for London only. Once complete, please print, sign and send along with your physical passport to our visa partners, DJB Visas, in London. Please refer to our visa application helpsheet for assistance, please note the application must be completed on a computer or laptop (not compatible with an iPad or tablet).

If you do not hold a full UK British passport, you will need to provide proof of UK residency in the form of a physical UK residency card/permit or UK visa. Please contact Wendy Wu Tours prior to your application as requirements may differ depending on your nationality.

You will need to be ready to submit your applications between 4-11 weeks prior to departure.

  • Select London as the visa centre to apply through.
  • Complete your visa application form 11 to 4 weeks before departure, please refer to our China Visa helpsheet for assistance in completing your visa application.
  • Once your application form is complete, please print, sign and post along with your physical passport and Wendy Wu consent form to DJB Visas, who will apply for your visa on your behalf.
  • Physical passport (please ensure your passport is signed and has a minimum of 6 months from date of entry in to China)
  • A fully completed and signed application form (printed on A4 paper only)
  • For non-UK residents, physical proof of UK residency (residence card/permit or UK visa)
  • Wendy Wu Tours visa consent form
  • Chinese Statement Letter for single entry visa (one per applicant)

Applying for your visa (Temporary Process)

The online application form is quite long and complex, therefore, we recommend you allow approximately 1 hour per application.

Please note you will need to provide personal information such as previous work experience and previous education, we recommend you obtain this information prior to completing your form.

Once you start your application, please make a note of your application reference number (e.g. LON2181210AL7734116). You can re-visit your application at any time, provided you have clicked the 'save' button which is located at the bottom of each page.

Once you have selected your visa application centre, you will be required to click on ‘Application form’ toward the right hand corner, from here it will ask you to log in to your account, please click ‘No Account? Create now.’ where you will be asked to input your email address and a password of your choice, meeting the listed requirements.

In the below box, please click ‘Sent Code’ then move the captcha arrow from left to right, by dragging with your mouse or stylus. You will then have 60 seconds to retrieve the code from your email, please ensure you check your junk mail.

After you have created an account, you may continue to complete your visa application form.

Below is a step by step help guide with all the answers that you require for each section of the visa application form. This includes the relevant hotel information needed.

  • 1.1 - Upload photoplease scan a passport sized photo to upload in JPEG format only (please ensure your photo meets the required photo specifications as per our guidance)
  • 1.2 - Name

  • 1.9 - Current Occupation: Please select from the dropdown menu. If you are retired, please select ‘Unemployed’.
  • 1.10 - Annual income -Please convert your income to either EUR, USD or RMB and enter the amount in the box provided or tick ‘Not Applicable’ box if retired. (This section does not appear if you have selected your current occupation as ‘unemployed’)
  • 1.11 - Work experience in the last 5 years if more than 1, please select the add button at the bottom of this section and repeat the below. If you have been retired for more than 5 years, please tick ‘Not applicable’ box and provide an explanation, e.g. Retired.
    • Start date: Please enter YYYY/MM/DD

Photo Requirements for Chinese Visa Application

In accordance with the instruction from Chinese Embassy in Singapore, Applicant is required to submit one photo while applying for Chinese visa. The following detailed requirements of the photo should be satisfied:

  1. It must be a color photo with white background, taken recently within the last 6 months.
  2. Photo size: 48mmx33mm, width of head: 15mm to 22mm, height of head: 28mm to 33mm. Please refer to the picture below:
  3. While taking the photo,please face the camera with the entire head and face clearly visible. The facial expression should be neutral with eyes open, lips closed and ears visible. Head position: ≤20°left or right tilt, and ≤25°up or down tilt. There should be no extra movement or objects visible in the photo.
  4. Facial features should be complete and clearly visible, with the head centered in the photo. Eyeglasses are allowed except thick-rimmed, tinted or glare glasses. Hat or other head wears are only permitted due to religious reasons, but any facial features should not be obscured.
  5. There should be no damages or impurities on the photo, no permeation or shadow over the face. Photo should be in natural tone, but not over or under exposed, red-eyed or distorted.
  6. Background should be in white , and with no edge frame. Please refer to the following image to check if your photo meets these requirements.

The specific requirements mentioned above will come into effect from December 1st ,2016. Please be noticed that, your visa application may be declined if your photo does not satisfy the requirements, and all the responsibilities should be taken by yourself.

Chinese Statement Letter for single entry visa

Thank you for completing your visa form. There is no need to follow the process below unless specified otherwise.


Applying for your visa (Standard Process)

The Chinese Embassy will require all visa applicants aged 14-69 to attend their nearest China Visa Application Service Centre in person to provide biometric fingerprints.

The process differs depending on where you live in the UK, as it determines which Visa Centre you will be applying at.

For applicants applying in London, you have the option to use our meet and greet service provided by DJB Visas. Wendy Wu Tours will be liaising closely with DJB Visas behind the scenes to cover the cost of your visa on your behalf.

If you do not hold a full UK British passport, you will need to provide proof of UK residency in a form of a physical UK residency card/permit or UK visa. Please contact Wendy Wu Tours prior to your application as requirements may differ depending on your nationality.

The China Visa Application Service Centres are able collect your fingerprints at their offices in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast.

Please contact Wendy Wu Tours prior to submitting your application to confirm which visa centre you will be planning to visit, as we will need to organise your supporting documents.

Fingerprints are NOT required for anyone under the age of 14, or over the age of 69 (if you are 69 at the time of your applying for your visa, you still need to provide fingerprints).

  • Complete your visa application form 11 to 4 weeks before departure, please refer to our China Visa helpsheet for assistance in completing your visa application.
  • If you are applying for your visa through the application centre in London, please send your completed and signed visa application form, a clear coloured copy of your passport, flight itinerary and your Wendy Wu Consent form to DJB Visas - DJB will check your documents and contact you to arrange an appointment to meet at the visa centre. You will need to bring your physical passport to your appointment
  • If you are applying for your visa through any visa centre other than London, please email/post your completed visa application form, passport copy and Wendy Wu consent form to DJB who will check your documents on your behalf before you make your own appointment with the relevant visa centre.
  • For applicants who submit their documents to London - DJB Visas will collect your passport and visa on your behalf and arrange for these to be returned by secure post.
  • For applicants who submit their documents to any visa centre other than London, you will need to arrange collection directly with the relevant visa centre.
  • Select London as the visa centre to apply through.
  • Complete your visa application form 11 to 4 weeks before departure, please refer to our China Visa helpsheet for assistance in completing your visa application.
  • Once your application form is complete, please print, sign and post along with your physical passport, Wendy Wu consent form and your flight itinerary to DJB Visas, who will apply for your visa on your behalf.

For applicants applying through Manchester, Edinburgh or Belfast - please ensure you take all of the following documentation to your appointment:

  • A fully completed and signed application form (printed on A4 paper only)
  • Your physical passport (the visa centre will keep you passport for approximately 1 week)
  • Confirmation of your appointment
  • Flight itinerary
  • Invitation letter (this will be sent to you via email)
  • A coloured copy of your passport information page
  • A coloured copy of any previous Chinese visas (if visas are in a previous passport, your will need to bring this passport to your appointment as well)
  • For non-UK residents, physical proof of UK residency (residence card/permit or UK visa)
  • Payment for your visa (please inform Wendy Wu Tours you will be applying for your own visa and we will refund you the visa cost for a standard visa)
