Take a tranquil two-night cruise through the beauty of Kerala’s backwaters onboard a traditional houseboat before finding utter relaxation on the beaches of the Malabar Coast
This tour is suitable for those with a short period of time to travel and who are looking to visit the main sights of the Kochi region of India. This is a private tour and therefore some meals are not included, giving you the option to occasionally select your own dining experience. This tour incorporates land travel only to give you optimum vistas of the Kerala countryside.
Fly overnight to the delightful city of Kochi. On arrival you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel.
Travel to Alleppey. Located between the Arabian Sea and Lake Vembanad, this is the gateway to Kerala’s epic backwaters and home to more than a thousand boats. You will explore onboard a traditional kettuvalam (houseboat) – primarily used for the transportation of goods, these boats are an integral part of the Keralan experience. Clamber aboard and begin wending your way through this incredible maze of tropical canals. Tonight you’ll dine on delicious local flavours, prepared onboard. (B,D)
The backwaters are a unique area, a web of interconnected lakes, lagoons, canals and rivers, both natural and manmade, which spreads almost half the length on the state. Formed by the waves and currents of the Arabian Sea creating islands across the mouth of the many rivers that pass through the region, creating a unique and breathtaking ecosystem. Spend the day onboard your houseboat, cruising though the undisturbed lagoons and lakes, enjoy peace and quiet, observing any wildlife and watching the everyday lives of the people who live and making their living on the water. This is rural Kerala at its most divine. (B,L,D)
Disembark the houseboat and drive to Marari Beach, located perfectly on the tropical Malabar coast. (B)
Take the next two days for all out relaxation – you can lie by the pool or recline on the soft sand of the beach, from where you’ll be able to see the local fisherman on traditional wooden boats bobbing gently on the Arabian Sea. (B)
Depart for Kochi. On arrival, the rest of the day is at leisure. (B)
Fly home to the UK arriving the same or following day. (B)
The best time to visit India is from November to March when you’ll enjoy pleasant warm dry days and low humidity.
