On arrival in Beijing you will be met in the arrivals hall by your local guide and transferred to your Beijing Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.
This morning, transfer to the Gubeikou section of the Great Wall, less visited than other parts of the Wall. From here, start your hike to the Jinshanling section. You will be walking for 5 to 6 hours over a distance of 10 km. Gubeikou is a rough and wild section of the Great Wall, while Jinshanling is known for its beautiful brickwork and watchtowers. The walk intersects a military base and will take a detour off the wall around the base, stopping at a farmhouse for lunch. After your hike, transfer to Gubei Watertown, where after dinner you can explore the Simatai Great Wall at night. (B,L,D)
Spend the morning discovering the delights of Gubei Watertown which is built in the style of a Chinese ancient town. It surrounds the beautiful Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir and leans against the Simatai Great Wall. After lunch you will return to Beijing where your arrangements end. (B,L)
The best times to visit China are in spring (April to May) and autumn, (September to October) when temperatures are warm and humidity low.
