This morning you will transfer to the Rovos Rail Station, an elegant, private rail station from which this iconic train departs. Settle into your suite as the journey begins. Puylling out of Pretoria, the train will pass through Bela-Bela, once called Warmbaths thanks to its mineral springs and the fascinatingly named Nylstroom, called so by the Voortrekkers who believed the river here was the source of the River Nile. As the Highveld ends, the train will cross the Tropic of Capricorn and the Limpopo River, as it approaches the border between South Africa and Zimbabwe. Dinner onboard Rovos is always an elegant affair - hosted in 1920s carriages, make sure you dress to impress.
The train travels on into Zimbabwe - head to one of the observation cars or an open balcony as it passes through scores of majestic baobab trees to reach Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second-largest city. Cosy up on the luxury sofas of the lounge car, enjoy afternoon tea, or sip on some of South Africa's best wines and watch the world go by as the journey continues.
Today you'll travel along one of the world's longest stretches of straight railway track, at 114 kilometres, which runs along the border of Hwange National Park. Disembark the train for a thrilling game drive. Hwange is well known to be teeming with wildlife and has one of Africa's largest elephant populations and regular sightings of lions, leopards and cheetahs. Back on the train, you can share your spots with your fellow passengers over after-dinner cocktails.
After a final breakfast onboard it's time to disebamrk as Rovos pulls into Victoria Falls. You'll be met and transferred to your hotel. Later this evening, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, soaking up the serene beauty of this mesmerising African landscape. Keep an eye out for 'smoke' in the distance, coming from the falls themselves.
