Ancient and sacred to many, Jerusalem is a vibrant, busy and forward-thinking metropolis with deep roots of history and spirituality that is the highlight of any holiday to Israel.

It is age-old and long contentious, destroyed and rebuilt over millennia, the home to the very foundations of three major faiths; Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Enclosed within 16th-century Ottoman walls, the Old City buzzes with activity – be it pilgrims making their way to the Western (or Wailing) Wall or Temple Mount, visitors browsing the wares of the colourful souks or locals passing the day at plentiful cafes and bars.

With layers and layers of history, it is split into quarters – there are Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Armenian – a testament to the mixture of people and cultures that call the city home. Each offers differing sights, sounds, smells and atmosphere and a wealth of treasures to explore.
