Well organised tour with an excellent guide. The sights we were taken to were excellent and the knowledge of our guide was second to non.
The activities of paper making, origami and golf leaf making were great fun and well worth doing.
A bit more time could have been spent seeing the lights and evening culture in Tokyo.
Unable to see Mount Fuji due to the weather and the boat trip on the lakes was badly affected, unfortunately there is nothing to be done that can affect nature.
The transfers to and from the airports could do with a little more thought
as travellers are weary when they arrive and not at their best for thinking how to get about in a new city.

Sumiko was an outstanding guide, blending her deep knowledge of Japanese history with a lively and engaging delivery. She adeptly answered most questions and proactively sought out responses for any she couldn’t immediately address. Her commitment to enriching the experience was evident in the thoughtful activities she introduced during long bus journeys—whether demonstrating origami, hosting short quizzes, or sharing insights into kimono traditions. Her ability to manage the group with patience and flexibility ensured a smooth, well-organised tour, always keeping the schedule on track. An excellent guide who truly went above and beyond.

All in all the tour was an excellent experience. It was expensive but there were very few extras required so it was good value for the standard of hotels, food and transport. Asa worked really hard. Nothing was too much trouble. She is an excellent guide.

My fourth Wendy Wu tour and the standard was as good as the others - good hotels, good itinerary, good food and an amazing tour guide made the trip unforgettable. Mariko was exceptional in her interaction with everyone on the tour. She gave us an amazing insight into Japan - culture and customs - her local knowledge was excellent - able to answer questions and give us lots of information and history. 

Wendy Wu is very lucky to have an excellent guide such as Mariko - Her experience, knowledge, efficency and organisational skills  has made this trip so so much more memorable. Her clear directions on meeting times enabled us to keep to schedule and her local knowledge of every place visited is to be commended.

Overall we had a fantastic experience everything was taken care for us, we always knew where we were going and what we were doing. Sumiko went out of her way to make our experience a memorable one and nothing was too much for her. She was an excellent tour guide. She was very knowledgeable, of all the places we visited and went above and beyond to enhance our experience by telling us stories and singing songs on the longer bus trips to keep us entertained and engaged by our surroundings. Sumiko made our trip more memorable and enjoyable with her warm personality.

Great holiday, packed a lot in, so inevitably early starts in the morning.
Our guide, Rumiko, was excellent.
The food was very good, and beautifully presented. I found the meals very rushed, particularly dinner. Everything was laid out when you sat down, and as there are no””courses” often all finished in about 45 minutes. I suppose this is the Japanese way but I usually consider dinner a highlight of the evening when on holiday and would prefer a more leisurely meal.

Wendy Wu Discover Japan tour was interesting and it was good that all meals were found so we didn’t have to hunt for good restaurants. Food was very good and more than plentiful. Sometimes eating in the hotels where we stayed and sometimes our guide walked with us to nearby restaurants. The days were quite full on and the coach travel a bit difficult as seats were small and my (tall) husband struggled to get his knees into the seat space. It would have been better to travel a bit more by train. Our guide was knowledgeable about historical Japan and the many shrines and temples we visited. We did ask her for some more up to date information about how the Japanese live now as we felt this would have been more interesting and we got very little on this side of things. Our tour group was mixed with people from the UK, Australia and New Zealand which gave a great atmosphere and everyone got on really well. Hotels were mostly very good, modern style. One was down a side street so we had to trundle our cases uphill which was a challenge for some and we helped each other. We did some crafts like paper making and decorating chopsticks with gold leaf. Watched a tea ceremony, did some sake tasting and some origami. These were good activities making a change from touring round temples. The transfers were odd as on arrival in Tokyo we were taken by taxi to the hotel. On leaving Osaka we were taken by taxi to a bus stop then waited 90 minutes for a bus to the airport. We would have preferred to return to Tokyo for the last night then flown straight back rather than going from Osaka to Tokyo and then flying home - it made a very long day coming home.Overall we enjoyed the tour but found that admin from Wendy Wu was poor. We got different answers to questions we asked, sometimes no reply to emails with requests regarding transfers etc. We had to write many emails to get flight options to upgrade to premium economy. For this reason we would not book another tour with Wendy Wu as touring should come with reassurance to things we need to know before travelling without so much hard work on our side to gain information.
