On a stopover in Taipei, you can explore all this under a skyline that ranges from gleaming, modern skyscrapers to traditional wooden houses, the bits in-between filled with busy temples and lively markets.

Full of must-see attractions, one thing not to miss is the National Palace Museum, which houses a vast collection of historical Chinese artifacts and artworks, much of which come from the imperial collections of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Then there is the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the heady heights of Taipei 101, and Longshen Temple, alongside excellent shopping and some incredible gastronomy. As capital you’re bound to find Taiwan’s very best food in Taipei, so prepare to fill up on delights like Taiwanese fried chicken, beef noodle soup, xiao long bao and bubble tea.
