Fly overnight to the vibrant, neon-bright metropolis of Tokyo, Japan's capital city.
Tokyo is the ultimate 24-hour city, but look behind its frantic, high-tech frontage and you'll find plenty of tranquil backstreets and old temples to explore. Head to the top of the Tokyo Skytree for panoramic views over the city before taking a wander through the districts of Asakusa and Nakamise. Stop to soak up the atmosphere at Sensoji, Tokyo’s most famous and beloved temple, browse the stalls of Nakamise shopping street and visit the Imperial Palace Plaza. Later take a stroll through Hamarikyu Gardens. Enjoy your evening meal whilst cruising on Tokyo Bay.
Travel by road from Tokyo to Fuji, where you’ll visit the 5th Station at 2,400 metres. If the road to the 5th Station is closed, you will instead visit the Fuji Visitor Centre. Transfer to the spa region of Hakone by coach. Take a cruise on Lake Ashi and, weather depending, catch your first glimpse of the mighty Mount Fuji peeking over the surrounding hills. Fly up from the lakeside over the Alpinesque hills to the summit of Mount Komagatake on the Komagatake Ropeway, from where you’ll have breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, if it isn’t hiding behind a cloud!
Transfer to Odawara Station to jump onboard the Hikari bullet train, and whiz your way to Kyoto, Japan’s history-filled ancient capital. This afternoon, visit the magnificent Fusihimi Inari Shrine. Follow the pathway through thousands of vermillion torii gates that leads through a complex of shrines spread over a peaceful, forested hillside.
This morning visit one of Japan’s most famous temples, Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion. Set amongst classical Japanese Zen gardens and on the edge of a reflecting pool, the temple’s main hall is covered in gold leaf - a breathtaking sight no matter what season you visit in. Continue to Ryoanji, a Zen temple that is home to Japan’s most famous Zen garden. You’ll have some time to contemplate its mysteries for yourself. This afternoon, enjoy a taste of authentic Japanese culture, experiencing a tea ceremony and learning the traditional art of origami.
Transfer to Nara by road, and spend the morning exploring Todaiji Temple which houses a Giant Buddha, or Daibutsu, which at 15 metres tall is Japan’s largest bronze statue. Here you’ll also be able to meet Nara’s famous Sika Deer, believed to be messengers from the Gods. Also visit Issuien, a prime example of a Meiji-era (1868-1912) garden. Continue to Osaka, where you’ll have lunch and stroll through the Dontonburi district, Osaka’s vibrant foodie and entertainment district – it is best known for its plethora of neon signs. Later, you can discover the turbulent history of Osaka Castle.

Tipping is an expected element in the tourism industry today and Japan is no exception. Many passengers are often uncertain of how much to tip so we have a tipping system whereby every passenger gives a set amount (in US Dollars) to the National Escort who will distribute the amount appropriately. On multi-country tips, this amount will be paid in stages on arrival in each country. If there is no National Escort, you will need to give your money to your Local Guides and tipping amounts for each city will be shown in your final itinerary.

We are aware that people like to take home souvenirs, so ensure the shops you visit have a reputation for quality, honesty, and authenticity.

As is traditional, lunch and dinner consists of small dishes of local cuisine, placed on the table for everyone to share a speciality dishes. The amount served is more than ample for the group.
