The Jeita Grotto is a cave system consisting of interconnecting upper and lower galleries, extending deep into the mountains north of Beirut.

Considered one of the Middle East’s premier natural sights, they were first discovered by an American missionary who, on venturing into the cavern, fired his gun and got a glimpse of a spectacular sight!

The two grottoes are full of breathtaking crystallised limestone formations – the lower cave is the bed of a freshwater river and only accessible by boat, whilst the upper grotto with its staggeringly high ceiling, reached by cable car, is home to the world’s largest stalactite.
