Our guide Midori was wonderful and knowledgeable. But we found the tour number too large and this limited the facility to go into more detail about the history and people of Japan. We also needed more time for ourselves, particularly in Kyoto and Tokyo. We felt there was no need to provide three meals a day, and especially no “western” ones! For example the pseudo Italian meal in Tokyo was awful. Having said that we had some amazing delicious Japanese food.

The Wendy Wu, China by Land, section with Ken, their guide was exceptional in all aspects. We would rather not have done the Japan by Sea section. It was a very big ship catering for the Asian market and we considered that both the food and entertainment was no very good. The gripe for us is that the ships organized tours were a bad joke. Very expensive to see one or two temples and then left to sped the rest of the time in shopping areas. We got no feel for the real Japan and based on this experience alone, we would not go back there.

This is a very busy trip, packed with amazing locations and sights. Be prepared to cover lots of ground on foot, but it is worth it !!!

I would highly recommend Wendy Wu tours , they are very well organised . The tour of Japan was excellent with the guide being very well informed and she went the extra mile , providing us with her favourite snacks to try , cooling wipes and giving us a lot of information about Japanese culture and history .

We overall really enjoyed the holiday and the tour was very busy and diverse but the tour guide was very difficult to understand and basically dropped us at places and told us to be at the bus at x time. While very nice she lacked passion or knowledge about places we were visiting and relied on copious written notes that she read on the bus but most couldn't hear or understand her. Kind of like listening to someone's homework... very tedious.
We were left to wander and wonder what things were in such culturally different places and some missed temples and key features because we just didn't know. Even when we asked questions she was not able to help or have answers.
Also the food was surprising inconsistent considering everywhere we looked had quality, reasonable food including service stations ! Some meals were lovely and local, some were in places where we wouldn't eat. Also we never did a sushi evening or noodle bar?? I mean it's Japan? So we did our own thing for some of the nights.
We wouldn't recommend or use again as we won't be going back to Japan so we needed to do it right the first time and we don't feel like a Wendy Wu tour enabled us to do that.

A totally phenomenal holiday

an amazing way to see so much of China and being supported by such a knowledgeable team. Our guide Ken, could not have done anything more to ensure we had such an enjoyable and informative holiday.

Whistle stop tour of famous China attractions involving a lot of internal travel, early starts and lugging of suitcases. Little free time to explore anything outside of the itinerary. However hotels and restaurants were good quality and you pack loads in. The cruise part was very welcome as we were so shattered but if you want to see Japan - not the way to do it. Barely time to go anywhere. Ship itself very Asian themed and very packed- lots of activities chargeable too. Just do China in its own if you’re going to do it. Don’t take your power bank or their confiscate it and pack as light as you can - you’ll be constantly on the move and carrying your bags. Well organised on the whole and an enjoyable experience. I’m just waiting for a respond to my query about the tip money we handed over. Get a Chinese sim, and get Alipay sorted before you go too.

This is my second attempt to book with Wendy Wu. The first time nobody rang me back, which for £10,00 was a little off. I booked this time despite not being offered another airport. We don't all live in the south-east! Wendy Wu doesn't offer a taxi service, which most other companies do, but they do offer a useless few days in Hong Kong, which if you are part of a solo group isn't very useful, particularly as a woman travelling alone. I fully expect to be charged an extortionate amount of money to fly from Manchester, which plus the car will add a substantial amount. I do hope you are going to be worth it.
