A sparkling expanse of water nestled in the greenery and cool climes of the Shan Hills, Inle Lake is one of Myanmar’s most captivating destinations. Here you can voyage through rustic stilt villages and past floating tomato farms, watch fishermen working with their nets and marvel at the art of leg rowing, a practice of Inle’s Intha people. Zooming to and fro across the water in a traditional longboat, watching the comings and goings on the lake, is one of the most enjoyable parts of exploring here – there are also a number of cottage industries to see, particularly weaving, and the atmospheric old pagodas of Indein.
