Often called ‘the birthplace of Taiwan’ and the ‘cradle of Taiwanese culture’, Tainan is the island’s oldest city and the perfect place to explore Taiwan’s heritage. The city grew around Fort Zeelandia (now Fort Anping), established in 1624 by the Dutch – you can still explore the fort in the city’s Anping District, as well as wander a tangle of atmospheric back alleys to stumble across centuries-old buildings and ornate temples. It is here that you’ll find plenty of traditional culture to experience. Other popular historic sites include Chihkan Tower, also built by the Dutch but much refurbished over the years, and the Confucius Temple, built in 1666 as Taiwan’s first Confucius Temple and school.
Tainan offers a wealth of wonderful sights and experiences. What better way to explore them than on a Wendy Wu tour?
