Japan

Japan’s deep and rich autumn (September to November) is beguiling. In the parks and temple gardens of the cities, the leaves of the maple and gingko trees turn vibrant shades of red, yellow and orange; if you are travelling into the Japanese Alps, you’re in for an even more spectacular sight.

South East Asia

September to December are superb months to visit Southeast Asia and whilst there are some variations across this large region, there's always somewhere that's at its best during this period. Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos are looking lush and beautiful after the rains and are hot and dry throughout.

Borneo is warm and dry throughout September, and November and December are absoulte peak season for Thailand and the Philippines.

China

Autumn is considered one of the best times to go to China as the weather tends to be warm and dry, and much more comfortable than other times of the year.

Across the country, hues of reds and yellows appear throughout the countryside. The Great Wall, lined by vivid trees and forests, is an even more spectacular sight than usual whilst farther south, the terraces of Longji (near Guilin) and Yuanyang (Yunnan province) turn a golden yellow as the rice ripens for harvest. But it is Jiuzhaigou National Park that offers the most glorious autumn vistas.

The vast forests become a blanket of colour which is then reflected in the park’s many lakes – an explosion of autumn!

India, Sri Lanka & Central Asia

October to December are wonderful months to visit much of India with great weather and some magical festivals. In the north, temperatures are cooling pleasantly and the monsoon rains are a distant memory around Rajasthan and the Golden Triangle. Parks and reserves reopen in October so a tiger safari is now back on the menu and conditions are also ideal for sightseeing in Varanasi and Kolkata. Mumbai and Goa are largely dry and pleasant. The landscapes of Kerala and the south are lush and beautiful.

Likewise Sri Lanka is warm and sunny throughout these moths and are a wonderful time to visit.

Autumn is perhaps the best time to visit the Silk Route and Central Asia, providing a pleasantly comfortable window between the scorching hot summers and freezing winters.

South America & New Zealand

Spring has sprung in the southern hemisphere so this is an excellent time to visit Chile, Peru & New Zealand. Expect warm sunny days with clear skies and beautiful wildflower displays.

Europe & Middle East

October, November and December are often considered the best months to visit the Middle East. Temperatures are comfortable and blue skies abound and as the fruit harvest is gathered in you'll find a multitude of festivals across the region.

September is a wonderful time to visit Turkey and Greece with temperatures still pleasantly warm and the summer crowds have disappeared.
