Fly overnight to Tokyo, Japan’s vibrant, innovative capital city. On arrival, transfer to the airport to your hotel where you will have any free time to relax or explore before a welcome dinner at the hotel. (D)
Today, embark on a full day tour of the city, ascending the Tokyo Skytree, wandering the Asakusa district to the atmospheric Senso-ji. You’ll also visit the Imperial Palace Plaza and stroll through Hamarikyu Gardens. This evening, cruise the waters of Tokyo Bay and enjoy dinner. (B,L,D)
Special Experience – Make your free time at Senso-ji even more authentic by enjoying it fully dressed and accessorised in a traditional Japanese kimono!
Travel by road from to Mt Fuji, where you'll ascend 2,400 metres up Japan's most iconic sight to the 5th Station (weather permitting). Next, transfer to the spa region of Hakone and embark on a cruise on the spectacular Lake Ashi before flying high above the lake on the Komagatake Ropeway to the summit of Mt Komagatake and enjoy the breathtaking views! Transfer to Odawara Station to jump onboard the Hikari bullet train and whizz your way to Kyoto. This afternoon, visit the magnificent Fushimi Inari Shrine. Follow the pathway through thousands of vermillion torii gates that leads through a complex of shrines spread over a peaceful, forested hillside. (B,L,D)
This morning, visit Kiyomizu Temple, a huge complex on a clifftop, overlooking the city. Continue to Higashiyama, an area that offers, when you wander its narrow lanes of old wooden shops and dwellings, an experience of a Kyoto of times gone by. After lunch, visit one of Japan's most famous temples, Kinkaku-ji, the 'Golden Pavilion'. (B,L,D)
Special Experience – Learn the art of Zen meditation at tranquil Kodai-ji and its classical Zen garden.
Travel by bullet train to Hiroshima. Hopping on a ferry, make the short trip to the holy island of Miyajima, where you’ll visit the Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rising majestically out of the waters of the Seta Island Sea. (B,L,D)
Wander through the leafy and peaceful expanse of the Peace Memorial Park and visit the striking A-Bomb Dome, before exploring the moving Peace Memorial Museum. Board a bullet train to Himeji to see the spectacular Himeji Castle and Koko-en, a garden that showcases the various traditional styles of the Edo Period. Continue by bullet train to Osaka where you’ll spend the evening in the vibrant Dotonbori district. (B,L,D)
Another former capital, Nara is a picturesque, compact city and easily reachable from Osaka. Explore the magnificent Todai-ji and admire the magnificent Daibutsu, the world’s largest bronze statue of Buddha, before strolling through Isuien Gardens. After lunch, return to Osaka and enjoy free time before dinner. (B,L,D)
Special Experience – This afternoon, experience the preparation and ritual involved in a tea ceremony.
Transfer to the airport and fly home to the UK. (B)

Shopping can be a fun and entertaining component to any travel adventure. In keeping with most people’s interests whilst on holiday, your tour will include a reasonable number of opportunities to shop for local goods and souvenirs. We have included visits to establishments that not only provide an opportunity to purchase a locally produced, great-value souvenir; but you’ll witness first-hand how these local products are made, their history and how they support the local economy. We are aware that people like to take home souvenirs, so ensure the shops you visit have a reputation for quality, honesty, and authenticity.
The cost of all meals is included in your group tour cost. Breakfast is a combination of local and western food, served buffet style. As is traditional, lunch and dinner consists of small dishes of local cuisine, placed on the table for everyone to share a speciality dishes. The amount served is more than ample for the group. We aim to cater to the tastes of all and the food is not too spicy or unusual in taste. Drinks will be at each tour members’ expense and paid for at the end of each meal. Beer is widely available. Western style wine is not widely available. Bottled drinking water, soft drinks, and fruit juices are widely available.
